Important Information about Visas and Media Accreditation

Most foreign journalists travelling to Ethiopia must have a business visa and be approved by the government (exemptions indicated below). Please email mciamedia@globalhealthstrategies.com if you have any questions.

Step 1Complete Conference Media Accreditation Form

Please fill out the on-site registration form to request media accreditation for the conference.

Step 2Submit Accreditation Materials

Once you have completed this form, you will receive an email asking you to submit the below accreditation materials to mciamedia@globalhealthstrategies.com:

·         A letter from your editor (on official letterhead) addressed to the Ethiopian Government Communications Affairs Office, Foreign Media Accreditation and Monitoring Department that states he/she has assigned you to cover the conference

·         A copy of your press credentials (if you do not have credentials, this must be clearly stated in the letter)

·         A photocopy of the bio data page in your passport

Step 3: Official Conference Registration

Once you have submitted your accreditation materials, we will register you for the conference. You will be sent an email confirming your registration, which will include an official invitation letter to use for your visa application.

Step 4: Apply for a Visa

Journalists with Ethiopian Missions in their Countries: All foreign journalists with Ethiopian Missions in their countries must apply for a visa in their country (see below for full list of countries with missions). The above information (accreditation materials and official invitation letter) will be submitted to the immigration office in Addis Ababa and, once approved, the immigration office will submit the information to the Ethiopian Embassy in each country. Once that is received, the applicants can apply for the visa in person at their nearest Embassy.

If you will also be traveling with professional grade camera equipment, please notify us at mciamedia@globalhealthstrategies.com and we will provide the appropriate forms for you to complete in advance and submit with your visa application.

Call your country’s Ethiopian Mission or visit its website for further instructions on how to apply for a visa. Please begin this process as soon as possible to ensure adequate processing time.

Journalists without Ethiopian Missions in their Countries: If you do not have a mission in your country, you must notify us at mciamedia@globalhealthstrategies.com by January 15, 2015, in order for us to request a visa upon arrival for you.

Journalists from Kenya and Djibouti: Journalists from Kenya and Djibouti are exempt from visas. Please note that if you are traveling with professional grade media equipment from any of these countries, you will need to apply for a journalist visa as outlined above and submit paperwork for a filming permit.

Broadcast Equipment

If you are planning to bring camera/video equipment to the conference center, you will need to apply and get approval through the Ethiopian Government Communication Affairs Office. We are happy to help you secure the appropriate approvals. If you are planning on bringing camera/video equipment to the meeting, please send an email to mciamedia@globalhealthstrategies.com.
